In the previous part of this article, Offshoring for Success - Part 1, I talked about the launch of our offshoring initiative in the Indian sub-continent. Although the last couple of months have made for a bumpy ride in getting setup with an offshoring operation abroad, things are starting to look good. In 2010, we are set to deliver larger projects, better timescales and much more value for money than ever before.

As you would have gathered from my previous article on the subject, I am vehemently opposed to the idea of outsourcing. Outsourcing is extremely unreliable and with usually zero or no control over the active management process, I have seen many companies finding it difficult or simply failing to deliver quality on projects they have outsourced. Offshoring, on the other hand, has made it easier for us to get a better handle on our work from day one.

Granted, offshoring required some capital and consistently requires more capital and a fixed expense as opposed to outsourcing, it has proven rather fruitful. Having started off with a vigorous hiring process and help from the local management team, the process was not as bump as expected, and might I say, the quality of work was, with little training, acceptable. A little more work, and the quality of work is actually good, and we're just starting to see the fruits of the last couple of months of training. Of course, the fact that as the owner of the business I can speak the local language (even though I have never worked in a professional capacity the Indian sub-continent), helps with the effective back office communication.

So, what does the start of our official, successful, offshored (owned, NOT outsourced) operation mean for you, our clients? Where as 6 months ago we were very selective about taking on multiple larger (£35k+) projects, we've now got a team to not only handle volume, but to consistently support and manage ongoing relationships both with small businesses and large enterprises. As with our committment to our customers, we have always guaranteed our work, and that won't change with our expansion abroad.
